Content strategy
Content Strategy
Content creation strategy plays a key role in business. As business owners, we need to create content that will build enough trust with our audience that we can start monetizing from them.
It goes without saying that you need to create eye catching content that will get people to stop scrolling and actually pay attention to what you have to say.
I hear it soo often from my clients, “I don’t know what to post.”
This is not true!! You have sooo much content inside of you that is just waiting to come out. Creating content takes dedication and hard work – work that you can’t really delegate to someone else when you are starting out. You are an expert in your niche and people want to hear what you have to say. Sorry to tell you, there are no short cuts when it comes to creating content. However, if you truly enjoy what you are doing, this can be one of the most fun parts of business!! Take some time write now and just start writing content down!! You’ll be amazed how much will come out.
My quick tips for content writing:
Always write down all your ideas as soon as they pop into your brain. I have soo many notes in my phone that have ideas for various projects, content ideas or business strategy ideas. Some are full ideas and others are half ideas that I can come back to when I’m ready.
Find ways to keep fuelling your brain. I find I am the most creative when I am listening to podcast episodes, watching documentaries or listening to experts. When you learn new content, it automatically fuels the content that is already in your brain. Your brain will connect the dots. As you listen to experts, take notes and try expanding on what they are saying and relate it back to your own business or strategies.
If you’re like me and you prefer talking over writing, then get out the Otter app and recording yourself talking. This is literally how I wrote my third book. Otter transcribes what you say and then you can read it back and fix any mistakes or add more to it. I have found this saves me so much time!!
Give yourself deadlines. When I first started my business, I was posting on my personal profile once a day. I would set time in my calendar every day at the same time to plan my posts. This helped ensure I stayed consistent and my followers learned when I was active so they can keep a look out for my posts. The consistency and value I was giving to them created so much trust that some people in my audience started to become my clients! I was ticking enough boxes off for them that they felt like they could invest their time and money into me. Crazy, right??
Always make sure you reply to each comment on every single post!! This is so important in the Facebook algorithm if you want your post to stay at the top of people’s feeds. I always make sure I have the last word on every comment.
Chose a topic or theme so your whatever you are creating will be cohesive and easy to follow. Once you think of a topic you can expand on it and relate it to something in your life, give it more meaning or add more value to it.
Repurpose content. You don’t need to use one piece of content for one thing. For example, when I record a podcast episode, I transcribe it and use what I said for social media posts, workbooks, emails – almost anything really!! Repurposing content will save you time, while also ensuring you are still giving value.
Think about what your clients want. Listen to when they talk to you and take notes. You can use their problems or mistakes to create content that will be tailored to that. This is free value for them as well.
Promoting and scheduling
You need to have a content marketing plan so when you do create something, you can market it towards your ideal audience in the best way possible. Planning will help you stay ahead of the game while giving you more time research the best trends and what your audience wants to hear from you.
Putting in the work now to stay organized will help you in the long run. Creating schedules in Airtable will help you plan what and when you are going to do things. You can schedule when you are going to promote, create and release your product. This year, I decided to take my organizational skills to a whole new level by putting everything into my calendar and sticking to it!! I also started creating procedures for legit everything that happens in the office. Although it takes some time to create them, I know in the long run it will help future employees become better and faster at their jobs.
Different forms of content
Take some time and think about the best way to deliver your content. Is it going to be written, audio, video or pictures? Different content is better suited for different forms.
Do you know your marketing funnel?
You marketing funnel can help you plan your content marketing plan because you can focus on what’s at the top of your funnel, which should be Facebook groups, podcasts, blogs, magic PDFS – all the free things you do.
